Hi All,

I'm returning from a few years out of the trades and wonder what sparkies do with rewires now.

I always used to chase and plaster myself in the price. But you see such cheap quotes out there that they cannot be doing this and make a profit.

What's the general consensus? Offer a cheap start price that's surface and, offer a real price for a proper job?

Also what would the going rate be for a 3 bed house with solid downstairs floors and lived in? All recessed and plastered of course and, up north - not London.

Any replies appreciated.

Thanks - T0M0

It's OK to use, don't get me wrong but just stick your quotes in daily or weekly and don't get sucked into playing a bidding war with other guys. Some of the time the customer recognises the John Wayne gait and calls someone else who gave a quote, that's where the work comes from, but you can't rely on it for your sole income.

Look at the picture and think of the words, "Yeah, I can do it for a grand, all in!"

Hmmmm...............................

Going to blow my own trumpet now........

The rewire I have just completed...ÂŁ3.3k one with clipped cables in the loft and ceiling spaces etc, that took me 7 and a bit days to first fix blah blah,

Well turns out the customers father is a bit of a property bod and has just signed a contract with me for 2 further rewires!!!!!

Need to catch up with my old mate Dufjax as he wants proper fire alarms and emergency lighting, which whilst I can do them I dont feel competent enough! ( HMOs )

Just shows that attention to detail can pay off!!!

Got lucky really! Need a bit of luck at present!!!!!

Not luck , just good hard honest work that deserves rewarding

You guys must all be working on standard houses. I have never done two houses the same. Today just diverting a cooker cable to avoid destroying a fantastically tiled kitchen wall in a 200 year old large cottage took all day. Big bertha had a rare removal from the van along with her meter long 25 mil sds bit.
I can see that in other areas there may be a lot of houses that are similar. My patch is full of houses that are all different, so each price is different obviouslly. I have been called in twice now where the contractor has had stage payments, done a bit of work, and not been seen again, on each occasion I can see that they have hopelessly undepriced, and realising the task ahead of them, basically legged it. A kitchen is 1200 let alone the rest of the house !!!.
