Hi,

Firstly thanks to Gavin for your input, this customer is still pushing this point and I would like a wider view on it.

As most of you know I do UFH, I've sold a full house of UFH and the customer wants some sort of heat pump to heat the water, 2 firms have said he has to use an MCS or PAS2030 registered installer for the UFH install to claim the RHI

AFAIK there isn't MCS out for UFH, so am I missing the point or are these firms trying to get the install of the UFH also?

Having installed a heat pump and claimed rhi at home, I cannot recollect anything suggesting the UFH has to be formally included as part of the mcs heat pump installation.
Certainly there is nothing on the mcs certificate relating to UFH.
And I do not think there is anything in the (commercial) rhi application that links UFH with mcs.

Ask for a reference to a regulation or guidance.

thought as much and Gavin said the same, just wanted more reassurance. I think the guys are pitching for the ufh as well.

Check out the latest draft of the MCS heat pump regs ( its got a commissioning sheet in there http://www.microgenerationcertifica...p Compliance Certficate Draft for comment.pdf ) the important thing is that you acknowledge what emitters are there, and what they are designed to run at (temp wise) no, the UFH doesn't have to be installed by an MCS company, what it's designed to run at though will affect the deemed SPF and hence RHI payments.

Para 3.2 re existing emitters.

UFH is a PAS2030 measure but there is no requirement for it to be installed by a PAS2030 accredited installer unless ECO or GD finance is required......

Thanks - i understand it a lot better now - so theirs no reason why we cant install it if the ASHP guys give us the specification to work to and i sign to say its been done in accordance: but i also see where they are coming from and from the customers point of view that we will be blaming each other if something doesn't work!

Yep, you got it. If you get the work, you need to work to the emitter guide based on their designed flow temperature to ensure it meets the emitter star rating.

Which for underfloor heating from the emitter guide is a load of bo**ox as it takes no proper account of the actual design of the different underfloor heating installation methods (as usual designed for numpties ):dunce2: :dunce: :dunce2:
