[ElectriciansForums.net] Right or Wrong - Termination of SWA - Opinions and Suggestions please guys!!!!!

Above is a picture of 2 16mm SWA cables terminated into a termination block. In my opinion this is the correct way to dress in the SWA and terminate it into the incoming side of the termination block, not putting it into the same termination as the outgoiong cables.

Is there a reg that says you have to terminate like this? Or is it just good practice to do so??

Below is how another spark has terminated the 2 SWA cables. He has gone straight into the top of the termination block, into the same terminations as the outgoing cables.

Just to be clear there are no fuses on this termination block, it is simply a through termination, i just want to know which way is corrct or better practice and if there are any regs to say which is the better way to terminate.

Thanks in advance for your opinions and help!!!!

Both pictures are of the exact same board aren't they...

Like tel says, no reg, just not good practice.

See no point in putting the earth tag on in either picture if you're not terminating the SWA properly.

The way I see the cables in pic 2 do not double up, they go into the opposite side to pic 1 in what looks like a pair of commoned connectors.
Nothing wrong with that.
However the dressing of cables in pic 2 looks pants and because of lack of space the cables are forced against the side of the enclosure, that's not good fo the future.

The main culpret is the panel builder for placing the terminal blocks in such a position.
Banjos not bolted thro the enclosure?

Incoming on one side of the the block, out on t'other for me.
I doubt there is reg about it, but one has to do one's wiring with a bit of style!
Pic 1, is that a floating brown core I can see?

I hope that brown core isn't floating...i can see it, maybe its the picture angle and it's just bent into a loop? hopefully anyway lol

Yea mate same board but two sparks have done the job, before and after. They are both arguing the ---- so i thought id put it on here.

Also i know your reffering to the banjos not being fixed to the cab correctly, what they have done though is attached an earth from the banjos to a stud in the cab. Would you say that was ok?

No its a spare core left in for testing

Yeah if the earths are continuous throughout the installation and obviouslly test out satisfactory.

Just in that scenario, i would of fixed the swa glands properly if it was me.
