had a few jobs with the council fitting times/programmers and wireless stats after a new combi boiler has been fitted. Nearly all job have no rcd protection so fit Rcd fcu normally from the ring. to cover programmer and wireless stat. The question is, do you also need to fit double pole fcu after the rcd fcu??
Seems to be a split between electricians i know which is correct.

upto now were all the boilers have been fitted there was already a fused spare taken from the upstairs ring. this was used to run the boiler itself.
the council then ask for a seperate timer/programmer and wireless stat. normally i would fit a combined programable wireless stat but they dont want that.
so to run the programmer and stat RX we come off the fcu and fit rcd fcu then cable runs to both programmer and stat rx.

but lenny's query is why RCD unless you are burying cables < 50mm in walls.

Not needed in that situation, what a waste of money, thats what the govt and councils seem to do is throw the taxpayers money away on something thats not needed(ÂŁ45million a day we give to the eu)and scrimp on all the essential things the uk really needs(the list would be too long nhs etc, poilce, schools).sorry went off on one there,if the unit was in a bathroom cupboard id rcd it.

i wouldnt even fit an rcd FCU, but if they insist just swap the existing FCU for an Rcd Fcu then that will suffice i certainly wouldnt another one after that

The world has gone rcd crazy!?!?!

and what if there is already a RCD on the RFC? do councils know the meaning of discrimination, except when the politically inept rear their ugly head?
