Hello,

Can anyone tell me the purpose/what is gained in testing step 2 as opposed to step 1
I know how to do the tests but can't get my head around what is achieved by testing line and neutal together and line and cpc when you have already tested continuity of each conductor in step 1
If there is a break in the connection obviously it will show up on end to ends
Am i correct or missing something simple out here, like the ability to think:eek:

step 1 end to end loop of each conductor L in- L out,Rn in - Rn - out,Cpc in - Cpc - out
step 2 interconnections(fig 8) L in Rn out ,Rn in L out, L in cpc out ,cpc in L out.

Step 1 is at the CU, step 2 is at each socket and can indicate spurs as you are checking that each socket is giving the same readings.

No probs we all got to learn its not just spurs it will also highlight loose connections incorrect wiring etc. Stick with it and it will all make sense in the long run.

Good luck

It is to confirm that the ring is indeed a ring. It also confirms polarity and in the final step the (R1+R2) value for the circuit.

how to test the motor in 2391?

Hi, i failed the 2391 practical exam, i did the one phase part quite well, but very very slow when i did the 3 phase,

when i do the 3 phase, there is a motor, shall i open it and the isolator to test the continuity? test between CU and isolator, isolator and motor to get the other continuity in 2 steps?

cheers, also any tips on the 3 phase will be strongly appreciated
