Hello there got a query here - I Have got different results from each of the outlets on some double socket outlets on my R.F.C tests is this normal???? approx 0.2 and 0.5 ??? any help appreciated

we were testing continuity of ring final circuits . all seemed ok apart from this .
So it s common with cheap socket to find this result ?

thanks

As far as I understand things, the readings taken at each socket should be within 0.05 ohms of each other.

Have you completed all stages of the test (end to end of each conductor, cross connected etc)?
Are you sure that you have cross linked outgoing with incoming conductors?

If all above is ok then I believe that if the readings get progressively higher to a point and then reduce, it could imply a break in the ring - so that you are in effect testing 2 radials.

Alternatively it could be that the sockets with the higher readings are actually spurs?

I would certainly remove socket plates and check for secure connections also.

I wonder what others think as I am quite new to testing also???

Do pls post to say what the problem turns out to be in the end.

Hope this is constructive

I found a strange thing when I was doing a shed load of periodics and properly doing the R1+R2 test, like many sparks fail to do.... I found with certain cheaper makes of sockets, the readings on the different sides of double outlets were considerably different, so if you try this you may find that one side gives you the reading you should expect, and the other side could give you up to 0.2 ohms more, it's worth a try! Loop tests aren't affected due to the high currents involved....

I m sure it was the sockets , because generally it was on the right hand side that we had the higher result .
thanks for you help guys

cheers
