Hi guys been re -wiring a consumer unit which ive done and had a look behind sockets and ring main looks a mess seems to be spurs off spurs off spurs in some rooms anyone know what the best way forward is? Just put on 20amp breaker , i cant split in board and put on two 20amp mcbs can as they will still be inter connected at places? Or would people reccomend a rewire cables are red black

Cheers

Trace the circuit from point to point, also worth drawing it out as you find out what's what. From here you will be able to find the best point to split the RFC and put them on 2 x 20A radials. This way you can be sure of no interconnections etc.

Hi dude, as above,a test out, with your own drawings, will identify that issue, and the colour of the original wiring is no indication of any need to rewire.

I have many, many clients, who possess and use, installations containing wiring going back to the 1920s'...and as long as it passes inspection and testing...it is just a note

Did you do any checks or testing before changing the CU? by the sounds of it the answer would be no.

I did test before but only insulation test. And yes I am only changing board, I am thinking now to disconnect every socket and test each cable to see where it goes and draw it on paper then sort that way...but this will be a long task, any advice?

thanks for the replys

What makes you think this?

Have you asked your scheme tech support to see what they recommend?

Why did you say you were rewireing in the op if you aren't?

What tests have you done to establish that the rfc is a mess as you put it?
