Hi Jimmy
Discon ring split in middle or ish then test both legs find faulty leg and repeat with that leg ie split that leg in middle and con or ins test keep repeating untill offending fault found ! sounds like DIY damage or poss our old rodent friends doing overtime.

Last time i had this it was intermittent and turned out to be a socket hidden away behind washing machine. The machine had been vibrating against the plug which over time loosened the metal back box which had no grommets fitted and cable chaffed through.:( took about 4 hours to sort if i recall.

Good Luck

thanks alot for that went and had a look tonight and the wiring was a mess basically found when you moved the ring main cables at the board the insulation reading would improve but not enough slack to cut back and make off again so left it with the fuse holding but told him think we sholud be replacing the ring downstairs ring along with the main board old wylex board 3036 fuses and sort out the bonding because its 6mm what do you guys think?

Crimp a new section of 2.5mm to extend the ring at the CU then test again? If it's sound there's no need to replace the whole RFC.

Yeah, the CU is a customer for a local skip and the main bonding needs replacing.
