I think you'd do a lot worse than to start by taking all the socket fronts off and finding the sockets with more than 2 sets of wires going into them.

Then you could see if you get end to end continuity in all combinations to make sure it's not just a spur, connect L+N at the cu so you know which leg goes back there and disconnect one of the other cables so you're left with just a spur at the other intersection.
Disconnect the L-N link at the cu and find the other intersection in the same way and disconnect another cable so you're left with one ring and some sockets which aren't connected to anything.
Put the L-N link back in and find the sockets which aren't connected.
Decide what to do with the other sockets.

Does anyone have any easier ways?

You do the figure of 8 test, and take readings at each socket.
With a normal ring, each reading should be about the same, within 0.05Ω.
Where there are interconnections, the sockets between the figure of 8 connection and the interconnection will have a lower resistance than sockets after the interconnection.

agreed, make sure you have the incoming phase with the outgoing earth though.

depending on size of property it is often just as quick to start by removing sockets and looking for cables, you will find that readings at outlets on older installations are all over the place due to poorly terminated loose connections or worn sockets.
