Well it finally happened my best mate Doris had to be put down today, she was 13 years old and I had her since she was 6 she was a german shepherd and had travelled all over the country with me,but she lost a lot of weight recently and was very ill so I took the decision it was time to let go.now I feel like crap and the house feels empty,Rip my faithfull old friend.

feel for you, mate. always a heartbreaking decision, but if the poor girl was suffering, best for her to go with dignity.

It was for the best m8, It will get better after a while until you see one like her then it hurts like hell ...Sorry speaking from experience RIP Doris.

Sad times and difficult to come to terms with, but was really for the best.
Shows you cared enough to not allow her to suffer.
Best wishes for the following days.

If I had to do that (thought I had to a couple of months ago) I'd be in no state to post on here.

I do feel bad for you, I dread the day I will have to do that.

I feel for you, I had to bury 2 of our dogs in the last 12 month, both times it cut me to the bone. Just think of what a wonderful life you gave Doris and when its time get another, you won't regret it.

That brought a tear to the eye. Been there done that, only a dog owner knows! Lol...................... That's Lots of love

wow, a cat that feels for a dog ( sorry for the frivolity on a serious thread ). phil, it's hard, but having been there, i say you have to get a pup, takes the hurt away when you have a little bundle of fur to look after.

Your,e so right lads it was for the best and I will get another, funny isn,t it last week I hung up the overalls for the last time and all the plans I had and now this.Just goes to show you dont know whats round the corner.

Sorry to hear this Phil My mum has a friend who breeds cavaliers n Mum is the"retirement home" so has them for arround 6 years give or take This arrangement has been going on for the past 20odd years It still hurts like hell n they arent my dogs Last one was "Mirren" who my daughter loved and they enjoyed eachothers company When Mirren went Mum said "Thats it " at 75 mums not exactly spritley Well "NEVER" laster 5 months she poped in lastweek with her second dog as her friend was keeping him for stud due to him being "breed perfect" bar one essencial thing HE didnt like bonking So mum duley got phoned and now Hamish is here My daughter has a new pal and everyone is happy
Dogs trust might be an option as if your health isnt what it use to be then a more "age related" dog will help as a bundle of energy that puppys can be may not be your cup of Tea

I feel for you mate, we too have a german shepherd and he is the best mate I've ever had.
I didn't want him at first because I knew that it'll be down to me to take him for that one way walk but I'm so glad we got him at 8 weeks old.
Dreading the day
