Have run out of stock of RJ45's and looking to get a bulk pack online, it's been a while since I've had to buy any and I'm mostly seeing packs of the 'pass-thru' type - does nobody actually use end-on snips anymore?? Also, do you need a specific crimper or can you still snip the ends off neatly in a pass-thru?

I use a crimper like this
ebay link
It's cheap enough to buy a couple in case you loose one and it crimps/crops well

I've been using pass through connectors (when supplied) with standard RJ45 crimper and cheap electronic style, flush side cutters leave a perfectly acceptable finish.

Edit: this sort of cutter

I looked at a Klein one the other day and thought nah mine do the job!
Tbh, I find that I will use my crimp tool for a week and then not use it for months.
If I was using it all the time I would build the cost of some snazzy ones into the job but yeah my old ones will be fine for many years yet I think!

Yeah, I think I’ll stick to how I’ve been doing them for 25 years… That said, I can see the speed advantage in not having to care about dressing the cable off!

I don't dress the cable any differently for different types of connector, other than not trimming quite so short with pass through.

Perhaps this advantage explains the high rate of issues I see with cables terminated by data 'specialists'.
