I know this was discussed ages ago but I can't find the answers so I'll start another thread.

Our structural guy has suggested that one of the jobs we're working on this week needs strengthening and he's told us what we need - all fine. I am right aren't I that this comes under our normal notification to BR through NICEIC competent persons because the CP covers part a for roofs?????

I would say YES, you are OK. However clearly there must come a stage where a PV job with a bit of roofing work turns into a roofing job with a bit of PV work. The relevant bit of legislation I believe would be Items 17 and 20 of Schedule 3 here:
The Building Regulations 2010

Building Control might take a less liberal attitude to mine.

Regards
Bruce

That's what I thought - this particular BR are the ones that kicked off last time causing all sorts of hassle and ended up with egg on their face for charging all of their householders for BR for domestic solar. I just don't want to open another can of worms with them.

I work on the basis that if what you're doing is what the structural surveyor asked for, then it's then covered under the MCS self certification.

tbh, with the trussed roofs we've started adding extra support to the sides of the trusses we're mounting on as standard on a better safe than sorry basis anyway. I intend to get our structural engineer to issue a standard sign off cert for this, but haven't got round to it yet.

That's the way we see it also.

We've started doing the same. We have started doubling up ALL the trusses with timbers and we also stagger the brackets so that every timber is used. We do this after the structural engineer has signed off the existing roof structure for the install - working on the basis that we're improving it and therefore the structural engineer need not be involved. Wrong way round do you think?
