Hi guys hope you can help me here. I have just finished a new heating system a old ladies bunglow. It is a friend of my dads that he looks after. anyway, she is 96 years old and is visually impaired, therefore the standard programmable room stat that i put in is no good for her. She needs something that she can just talk to or something like that. I have searched high and low for something. The only thing i can find is called "The Kelvin Talking Voice Activated Programmable Room Thermostat". The only trouble with this is that it is can only be used in the USA. I have emailed the people that make the unit and they they cant help so they gave me the email address of the independent living aids in the USA so I emailed them and even they can't help. So i am asking if anyone has ever seen or bought anything like this here in the UK.

It would'nt be impossible..... but it depends on how much trouble you are prepared to go to.
Apparently U.S domestic heating/cooling systems use a step down transformer for their control circuitry, whereas we use mains voltage direct to the stat/motorised valve etc.

So as the "talking stat" has relays/contacts rated at 10-30v ac you are going to have to mimic the U.S. system pus add a relay to interface to the boilers 230v controls.
Something like this: STONTRONICS|T2403AD|AC/AC PSU IN-LINE 24VAC/750MA | CPC
for a supply, this for the interface: FINDER|4031-8024|RELAY, PCB 10A SPCO 24VAC | CPC
plus a base: FINDER|95833SXA|BASE FOR 10A SPCO | CPC

You can then follow the U.S diagrams, with the "talking stat" operating the interface relay the contacts of which, would take the place of the usual U.K. thermostat.
Hope your customer does'nt mind Fahrenheit and an american accent:D
