Hi all, newby here.

My workplace has lots of electical distribution panels on site and they all have stickers saying last inspection 2007 next inspection jan 2010. Am I right to insist this is carried out? In the wood shop all the power saws have circuit breakers stating they need inspecting iaw BS7671 which I know is wiring regs. They too were due last Jan. Can I say it is law to have to get them inspected?

Little bit about my self: I run a calibration department hence get jobbed for all sorts of tasks. You all probably know the score. I got 16th edition regs 12 years ago when I left the navy but have never used it so am very rusty - just like all my electrical connections! This company is a great company but just like all the others they are mistaking Health & Safety for house keeping using desk jockeys to control it so they miss all the important stuff out here on site.

On a different tack:

What advice can i give to a young electrical apprentice here? Heis a bright lad but is fed up with not getting any electrical experience and is just used as a dogs body. He is three years into his college work. And says all his mates are earning good money in France!

Great site, cheers ;)

the next due date is unfortunately just a recommendation...! its entirely up to your employer if he acknowledges that! what you will find is that the insurance will insist on it been done every 5-10 years so any sticker that is stuck on just gets disregarded..!

Periodic inspections are one way of showing compliace with the electricity at work regs
On going maintenance by a skilled workforce may be another
Its the employers responsibility to demonstrate ,if need be,how he complied with the Health and safety act via the EWR

Overdated Pirs do not become mandatory to have completed by their next inspection date, that is only one means of complying with Health and safety act,so no you cant force him to act
