Is this allowed? I'm planning on running the cable (Single) vertical down to a cooker socket using oval conduit, and have the ring main sockets cable go down into the same box, then run them horizontally to two double sockets using 20mm round conduit, then the from the 2nd box, the cable will come back and pass through 1st socket, into the cooker box and back up though the oval conduit, is this within the regulations?

Put it this way rather than the regs saying you can do it, there is nothing in the regs that say you CAN'T.

You will obviously have to weigh up certain things, such as damage to the cable during the installation and termination (reg 522.8.1) but if the cables are not going to be damaged and you are not deviating outside of the correct zones as the cable will be buried then yes there is no problem with this

Ok, I'm trying to rectify a bit if bodge I did when first moving here, the cables don't currently in safe zones. An electrician is due to come here some time in the near future and carry out an inspection. If he he inspects the first socket, he'll see the cable running though it (they're 37 mm boxes) He's not gonna go. "hmm, that's strange, I don't like the look of that!" Is he?

There is something niggling in the back of my mind about this.

I am almost sure there is a reg somewhere in BS7671 that says this should not be done (in a roundabout way), but i cannot for the life of me remember where or what it is.

Not very helpful i know.

No, it should be fine.
In fact what you are proposing is a lot better than some of the alternatives that I have seen.
Just make sure that the box is going to be deep enough to house the cable and the cooker switch.
I wouldput in a 47mm box, just to make sure.

Ok, can fit a 47mm box in no trouble and probably for the 1st socket as well, the other alternative was to come down/go up vertically to the 2nd socket but it involves removing a section of plasterboard and drilling through a horizontal stud

You got me thinking now Jase, I have just got back from lunch and saw your reply, don't think there is one in chapter 52 so not sure where else to look. Lol you'll have me going over this for the rest of the day

the only thing i can think of is that you'll have 2 supplies in 1 box, but you frequently get that with lightuing circuits, so i can't see a problem.
