Before RU went Professional most people thought rightly or wrongly that the Players came from a posh background, and only played by the knobs. just started watching RL England V NZ.
What is it with these RL blokes, most of them are sporting double barreled Names, any ideas why, snobbery, vanity etc.

al,i can addis that rugby is played by men with odd shaped balls.
And some with odd names Mate, that Bloke I think it's Robbie Paul has now change it to Robbie Hunter Paul, good RL player in his time, but why change his name, going to change mine I think, Pete Stallion Jones. That'll please Her in Doors.

Thats 'cos they are earning some dosh, and got pre-marital nuptials with RL Wags, and makes life easier for everyone concerned when the relationship goes Pete Tong, i.e. when they have accrued too many injuries to carry on playing their sport, and stop earning loads of dosh, causing break of said relationship.

Three NZ players with such.....usually part Mauri, as with RP. Not a fan of his, BTW. It seems to be a bit 'in' these days.
No English players.
Three out of thirty-four is hardly 'most of them'.

When you talk about a posh background, it's rubbish.
I played both games. Once I started playing open age RL, pro or amateur, I was automatically banned from playing union, at any level, by the RFU.....sine die. The upper echelons of the game were the problem...hence the northern 'Rah Rah' terminology.
A bit of reading up about working man 'broken time payments in rugby' wouldn't go amiss, here Pete.
Also, have a read about RL in France.....how the Vichy government made it illegal to play RL during WWII and how long it went on for.
PS. Great effort for England by the lads. Well done:)

Nearly all the ru guys are doctors or barristers or oxbridge educated . Draw your own conclusions
Shows some of the ignorance on both sides, I'm afraid.
The England RU captain's dad captained GB RL. Wiganers to be proud of, the pair of 'em.

not really .have you tried it .boy that takes me back a few years ,still got the battles scars .where men are men
the band of brothers like the musketeers .where you finish the game
and the opposite side will drink with you .and eat the pie and smash .

Of course there are exceptions but that's just what they are. I think RU is viewed differently in Wales for example because it is their national sport and it has mass appeal

Didn't say them all -there's been a few r l players played union .jason robinson for one when we won the world cup. There's been no end of doctors and lawyers too
What the hell are you talking about?
There are thousands of ordinary, working class blokes playing union....and that's just in Lancashire, Yorkshire and Cumbria, where RL was born.
I am RL through and through and can't stand the stuck-up sods in union that sneer when RL is mentioned.....many of whom come from that public school background. That doesn't mean that I don't respect those 'ordinary' thousands who turn out every weekend to play a sport they enjoy...or those who turn out to support their teams.

A very small percentage of the overall number playing the game. Get real.

The upper echelons of the game in Wales are no different to those in England......stuck-up to$$ers…..but, for various reasons, the broken time payments didn't take a hold. Plenty of past, illegal payments to top 'amateur' players, in a bid to keep them in the game, though...….and Sine Die ban threats if even a trial in the evil game.
Good luck to the average blokes playing and watching the game they love.
