If anyone ever wondered if it is possible for a MEWP to suffer a runaway or what happens if they do?, well they hit the ceiling with a hell of a thump !!

On the upside despite having to climb out I am unhurt!

Bloody hell mate! Did you have to climb down the whole way?
I was once stranded on a scissor lift at full extension, I had to climb down!
i never did find out who nicked the key!!

i hope they find and fix the problem, that could have been a fatality!!!

Glad you are ok. That could have been nasty.
I have been stuck in cherry pickers before and it's not pleasant, only half that height mind you. Was up in a basket for over an hour over a bubbling silo full of by-product at a bio-diesel plant.

Me and a mate were once finishing a car park lighting job on a friday. We were putting the tops on and dropping flexes down then connecting, so a cherry picker was necessary.
After the last one was done my mate up in the basket was bragging about how he could easily slide from where he was down a lamp post. I called him a bullsh*tter until he did it, much to my amusement.
Then we realised we couldn't start the engine from below because matey had left the E-stop button pushed in at the basket. At 4pm, on a friday. DOH !
I'm still amazed at how that fat little beggar shinned back up the post and into the basket.

When like wippet up lamp post no problem and knock the sensors off where we hanged around... Don't worry we didn't uuse knives or mug people but might pelted few cars even cop 1s just for the chase.. Flew up them posts

I can understand kids being able to do it, just not an overweight midget in his mid 40s though.

Oh dear.... LOL
So in what way did you over run? Or was it just the mast flexing that caused you to hit the roof?
Never done it myself but I have been in the basket with someone who did it sideways and smashed us into the side of a lamp post but that was no where near as high as that LOL

Lost all control, e stop did not work, dead mans switch not work, nothing, just kept extending without me touching any of the controls, rammed itself into the steel work, still wouldn't stop, bent the steel work and the cage of the basket, still wouldn't stop, so I climed out onto the steel work and waited rescue with the creaking and banging of it still trying to destroy itself.
