I don't have much exp with capacitors and I wish to run a 24V DC motor (2,82W) from a capacitor for a short period ~2 seconds.

The situation is when a switch is made i need the motor to run, it will start but then the switch returns instantly to off position and I need the motor to run on a tiny bit longer. I don't really have the option of putting a timer and a latch in, so is it possible that after the initial 24V kick into the motor that I can have it run on a little longer from perhaps a capacitor or is that also not an option?

Have you considered the charging of the capacitor? It’s going to have to be a fair sized beast, so the power supply needs to be up to it. Why can’t you use a timer?

thanks Tony,

I haven't looked too much into it to be honest. Plus my lack of knowledge with capacitors haha, I'm trying to learn more about components as I work with them more so I was just wondering if there was an easy option for using a capacitor because I have a fair amount on hand.
And as for the timer I COULD use one but I wanted to try avoid having to purchase one, even though they are cheap.

But if its much simpler then I will just make a timer circuit then.
appreciate the help

Is the motor 2.82W or 282W?

If its 2.82W, then you will need 10,000 uF/35V capacitor to run for 2 sec.

If its 282W then you will need 1 farad capacitor.

But with such high value capacitors, you will have to limit the charge rate,
by the use of a limiting resistor and diode in parallel with it to supply the motor.
