Running cables through cavity walls.

What's the cencus on this, to get cables to another floor. Cables obviously need to be fixed, I'm cant see how they could be running through the cavity unless I'm missing something?
Also there is the problem of cables being de-rated if cavity insulation is added.

5 metres unsupported comes to mind. Can't remember where it states it though. And yes you would have to consider future insulation when calculating cable size.

That's what I meant, running cables unsupported, not that they wouldn't be protected!

All that would achieve, is adding more weight to the unsupported cable!!!
