Hi everyone

I have been asked to provide an outside socket for a property which they wish to use to run an extension lead down to a small outbuilding at the end of the garden designed for one person to live in (about the size of a shed). They would be using a lamp and nothing more than laptop/phone chargers etc. I have proposed running a separate circuit from the CCU using SWA buried in the garden to a sub-main in the building for lights and power but they simply don't want to pay for the work and don't want to take the time to have it done.

I can provide them with the outdoor socket easily enough, there is RCD protection on the circuit, but how can I advise them to make what they want as safe as possible? Obviously you can't run SWA from a plug-top and so any advice would be great. If a 3-core flex were to be used how about steel kopex protection?

Thanks

Ha cotty's idea sounds good :) but in seriousness what are the implications for me if I put the socket in and they run a lead down there? Is it their problem or mine? Im only going get paid for the socket and put my name to that.

You can't educate PORK, so install the outside socket outlet, and let the homeowner decide what they are going to plug into the socket. Basically it's not your concern, warn them of the dangers of misusing the outside socket, and you have covered you're arse as far as you can go!!
