what would happen if i allowed it to do the leakage test? does this test not just put some current down the line conductor and monitor for leakage to earth ( this is with out the mains lead in so the pc will not start)

What you describe above is essentially a test of the power cord - which is the same as an extension lead. (I know you also need "polarity") If you pull the plug on the PC then your not testing this item.

ok so just to be sure . i do continuity , allow the IR test, but unplug the tester before the final leakage test has had a chance to perform its test?
