It offers better protection than T+E but not as good as SWA. Personally I’d use SY where I needed protection but with a degree of flexibility. Being honest I don’t like the stuff but at times needs must. The correct glands are relatively expensive and finger rippers if not made off correctly.

The screen can be bonded, it will not be enough to replace the CPC, but can trip an RCD if the wire is cut. So slight safety benefit.

If you are worried about retards, it looks strange so they might treat it with more care.

I'm one of them and think SY looks real pretty, I like to hold it to admire the geometric shapes under the plastic... then I like to gnaw on it 'til my lips hurt!

The OP changed the cable type in question to YY, by the way.

I seem to remember reading that the screen is earthed to stop 'noise' being transmitted to adjacent cables, and places like airports use it when run alongside data cables etc.

I think T&E should stay in the domestic game, the house-bashing profession!

I'm not familiar with commercial but I've seen sparks use T&E in conduit and across cable tray. It looks crap. Stick to keeping it buried in plaster or clipped to joists in attics!

I'm assuming lots of conduit, tray and basket in commercial installs. Twisted T&E looks plain awful on tray, especially when chafed and better cabling solutions are available. Conduit is suited to singles, not chunky oval cable.

It is great for connecting the large resistors we use for DC current sensing to remote operator panels as the small output around 50-75mV needs to be well screened but also has to survive. I don't use it for much else other than temporary lighting setups.

I assume you’re referring to shunt resistors. Why do you need to screen the signal? If it’s a large DC drive the signal will be very stable.

PS I hope you fuse the O/P from the shunt, wouldn't like to be around to see 900A trying to get through a bit of 2.5

I've used it a lot to screen motor supplies that are on inverters. Supposed to stop RF from other cables such as 4-20setc? Although I practice this I'm not entirely convinced it makes any difference lol. SY this is.
And I totally agree to keep t and e well out the industrial game
