In the TS I'v always tried to bridge the gap in between the books/classroom with reality. Recently finished first fix on a house extension and thought I'd post this up.

Ok this is basic stuff but some of the young lads that have worked on the same sites recently just do not know why safe zones are so important. All cables are vertical and horizontal of the back baoxes and once the plaster board is on, most people know not to drill up,down, left and right of a socket or switch. The pic above has a TV point so I've chosen to have side entrance to the socket and tv point so they can drill the wall above or to the side for the tv bracket. I'll probably mount it for them myself just to be nice, but now I have a photo of where the cables are I wont hit them with the drill. A good little tip for everyone

The window is going to be chopped out and made into an entrance btw.

Nice clean straight clipping all within safe zones for a 4 gang light switch with neutrals in the switch. I'll post up a 2nd fix pic once completed.

Now looking at the pictures in the OSG etc may seem a little easier to understand and follow.

perfectly safe till kevin kitchen turns up with his power devil drill.

This is what I was explaining to a young lad on site last week. He thinks I/we have a "stiffy on" for safe zones when working out the cable runs, he thinks we should just "throw them in, it works, what is the problem?"

Well, if Kevin kitchen fitter drills a cable in a safe zone HE pays for the repair work. If WE put a cable outside of the safe zones and it gets drilled, WE pay for the repair work. Then went on telling him about HSE and a court case against us if any one got injured or killed. It still did not sink in :leaving: :book:
