Hi there i signed up to this forum as i am looking for some Electrical advice about a safety issue i have, my compnay attend events and provide a phone charge service. The set up is that we have a phone charge bays in moveable cabinets each with individual plugs, the arrangement is like a daisy chain from the main source, the draw isn't too high as its only phones though can reach up to 1000 phones at one time, but that's not the issue,
The issue is, last year at one of the events one of the plugs gave out a shock, during the event without warning or apparent reason, as the exact plug/socket had been used up until that point without problem.
It seems like the plug had just 'went'. we do have breakers on the system inside and one at the outside generator, but these hadn't tripped and the plugs alongside the offender were operating as usual and weren't shocking.
Im really looking for some equipment that could detect a faulty plug/socket as it happens, rather than shock staff, testing before the event is fine but that won't sort out what happened during the event.
Any ideas advice welcome, and I'm happy to pay to have this solved too, cheers Neil

Do the circuits supplying the phones have RCD protection as well as MCB overload protection? Did someone actually receive an electric shock or was it just a fault that caused a flash somewhere?

The protective devices on an installation don't stop things going wrong or going bang even, they're just designed to disconnect the circuit as soon as possible when something bad does happen. Installations with long runs of extension leads are notoriously problematic because they're prone to high wear and tear damage and if they're not designed correctly the disconnect times under fault conditions can be very slow.

have the system checked and tested by a competent electrician...

what do you mean by "plug"? a phone charger? it maybe an issue of a dodgy charger plugged in by one of your customers?

A bit more detail needed here.....was the shock received from the mobile charger itself or direct from a socket outlet....and what was exactly touched to receive this shock...?

Where in Glasgow are you, if you are looking for the equipment tested or more info after a visual check then pm me and we can sort something out. It's hard to give you correct info without actually seeing the setup.
