Keep me amused! Sat waiting for NEDL to attend a melting service head! Wish I had my digital temp gun! Nearly burnt my hand on the outer casing!

This leads me on to the question. Do you ring dno then leave or hang around to hand over in this instance.

depends if the customer is wiiling to pay for me waiting around. obviously the hourly rate would not be the same as working time rate, but i would not be prepared to sit around for 3 or 4 hours for less than ÂŁ80

Your the best person to work this one out!

You can see what the customer is like (if they are on site)
You can tell if the unit is at risk of catching fire
You can tell if anyone is likely to be electrocuted/injured from the unit
You know the situation better than anyone here - if you are more than 100% certain that there is no risk leaving the unit unattended then thats your call
If your in any doubt then stay there

Also ask the customer - they are paying you at the end of the day - they call the shots!

Got called out by the premises department of the biggest estate agents in the uk, to go to the branches of 2 of their subsidiary's yesterday, the assured me that even though the branches are only 4 doors apart, the call puts we're not connected, a hour drive to the centre of Leicester and turning into the road I am greeted with 5 western power vans, 3 jointing crews, 1 gaffer and a dig team. Misery solved lol.

So I phone premises and get permission to disable a alarm as it was causing complaints, And was told to hang around. 4 hours on the clock!, fantastic!!

I got to sit and watch the guys work, and watching them
Power up the fault and listen/feel the ground for the thumping was priceless!!

OK, ÂŁ50 then. it's time i could be doing something more profitable.

I agree, yes i didn't charge full amount for waiting but you have to charge something. Just hanging around is a service because if you are around when the guys turn up you can smooth out a lot of problems, even if it is getting them a cup of tea so they will go the extra mile!

Its one of those "Scratch back" situations Charge a fortune for sitting around = no customer referances
Sit around and charge "sitting on bum rate" = customer singing your praises as you deal with everything , DNO also prefer dealing with you rather than customer direct as you know whats what
As for the TEA carry one of those small 1 ring gas cooker thngys Make customer cuppa Another"customer service " that will be appreciated
