sat nav

a little off topic but its something im sure most of us use..

im on the hunt to purchase a new sat nav and just wondering if anyone has any recomendations? ive been looking at some of the tomtom units but the extras such as cameras and traffic are annual subscription then likes of garmin do traffic free for life

ideally id prefer widescreen with minimum of speed cameras and traffic, so many out there and various deals

I use a Garmin Nuvi 1340, I won't link as unsure of the rules but you can google it easy enough.
No subs and it does what you need

Ive had a tom tom go 500 for years now. Even though I update the maps regularly, it has the odd glitch with no street names, it doesnt regognise my parents address even though they have been up nearly 5 years. The garmins have better maps but can be tricky sometimes but has better features regarding your max speed and total miles covered etc.

A lot of sat navs just take the info off road maps, had quite a few wagon pull up outside my house trying to get down to another road which has not been a through road anymore for over 15 years.

i went for garmin nuvi 1490t similar size to tomtom xl, initial thoughts are ok seems a little slower than tomtom and sometimes announces turns bit too early and doesnt seem to like pairing with my htc wildfire

I've been using Mio Navman Spirit Flat. It has wide screen and you can get it at affordable price.

I use a Tom Tom One. Its helped me out a lot. Im not bothers with trafic reports so I only pay to update my maps every now and then. If I was to buy one now I would fork out a bit extra for one that shows you which lanes you should be in on the motorway.

For work I use a Navman which I think was a Garmin before a Gramin was a Garmin.... it's got a teeny tiny screen but does the job well and even though they don't make them any more (so no updates) it gets me where I need to go.

For the 'family car' we have a tom tom.... whichever one was about 4 years ago... again it does the job, it's got Basil Fawlty on it. I like to pilfer it from time to time as you can bluetooth your phone to it and use it as a handsfree. None of them know when a new roads been built, mind. Both of mine still say turn left at the roundabout at the bottom of my road.... there hasn't been a roundabout there since about 1992!

mmmm I have my doubts on these pieces of majikery Now this is true, a Dutch trucker was looking for Arran Drv in Glasgow where'd he end up Yep right on my doorstep on the Isle of Arran 100 miles out and £260 in ferry fares,

I wouldn't say that they are 100% accurate Pict, as my Tom Tom has wanted me to do some incorrect things, that is why I always check my destination on Google Map first and see if the time, direction and distance the Tom Tom up with are similar.

I've got a Garmin Nuvi 1410, 5" widescreen with real junction view. The bluetooth is very good also. I got mine from Halfords for £119 and they threw in a free leather case. Good unit not let me down yet!!!!!! Highly recomend.
