IYO, what is the best for under a ton?

the free one on your smart phone?

I do have a Garmin Nuvi 42 - which pretty good and has a proper screen mount unlike the modern TomTom's

I have that lee, trouble is I have limited data on my IPhone and the sat nav app kills it, I need a GPS nav really, I haven't seen a good one on the app store yet.

got a link Clive?

I have a 64 GB, but the iphone still replies on data to run the sat nav, I only have 1 gig a month on my data which isn't much, sat navs usually use GPS which is free Clive.

I stopped using my garmin when I bought my new van and it uses google mapping through the screen on the radio ....

They only need mobile data or WiFi to plan the route, you can turn off mobile data once the route is set and it will continue to follow it.
The only issue is that if you need to re-route for any reason you have to turn mobile data on again.

Really? didn't know that Dave, I will look into that

Have a Garmin and cant fault it, update it by plugging into the laptop every so often, keeps you informed of speed cameras and mobile speed camera locations so you can ensure you are at the correct speed.
personally i prefer the garmin over tom tom having had one previously

Get a bigger data package. I’m with 3 and get 10 gb plus free calls and texts for £15 a month.

I got a new Tom tom a couple of months ago but manufacturers will stop supporting sat navs soon as sales are declining as people switch to using phones. Probably the last sat nav I’ll buy as I only need it for work as we use push pins to find sites.
