Mexborough cruiserweight Scott Brookes tragically died this afternoon in Rotherham General Hospital after being involved in a car accident early this morning.
Twenty-year old Brookes who was unbeaten in four fights as a professional was on a life support machine but police this afternoon confirmed he died at 12.40pm today.
South Yorkshire Police said a 20-year-old Mexborough man had suffered "life-threatening head injuries" after being struck by a taxi.
The young boxer was a close friend and stablemate of Sheffield boxer Clinton Woods who is currently in America preparing to defend his light heavyweight world title on April 12th. Older brother Stuart, 25, is also a boxer.
