Hm, just saw the MCS doc on metering for the first time which says:

"The meter and terminal cover should be sealed to ensure that the customer cannot
access either."

Does anyone know if we need to buy a specialist sealing tool for the meter then, or is this something the DNO or Energy Supplier would cover?

Cheers

Not the DNO's responsibly as its a private meter. I don't know if it is compliant but we stick one of our own company labels over the meter cover screw. If it's good enough for the DNO then its good enough for me!

Don't know where you would get seal's

Thanks. We just had our MCS audit and it didn't come up at all (our meter isn't sealed).

I could imagine the energy supplier wanting it done, it being the device that defines how much they pay out in FiTs. I'll ask our MCS accreditor and see what it's all about. Will post back anything I find

Cheers

It is possible to buy meter seals, either plastic or lead.

You will need a crimper with the lead, you could manage with pliers but there is bespoke tools.

You could try here and ask for James

Is it feasible though, that someone could fiddle with a Generation meter and make it read whatever they like?

Thanks everyone. I talked to NAPIT about sealing the meter and they said as long as the customer had to cut something to get into it then that was fine. Still, I think those meter seals look to be the go.

Cheers
