Hi, I am about to start work in PAT testing mainly for office space (ie IT equipment) and small busynesses. I need to purchase a unit to get started. Please any comments on Seaward 100 PAT tester. Mainle comments on IT testing equipment.:smiley2:

I was advised its not suitable as you can only test at 500v, not 250v for sensitive equipment such as IT. I've tested a couple of old pc's at work with one however and they still work.... But if I was charging as a business I wouldn't wanna take the risk unless its been confirmed 100% by the manufacturer it's ok.

I have a ethos 9125 which is a seaward 100 sold by CEF. I contacted ethos and was told that it is safe for it as the amps are so low.

Have a look on eBay for my tester if your interested.

Hi, yeah I have a seaward 100 and does the job fine, had a reply from seaward stating its perfectly safe to use in IT equipment. Bought mine on eBay, all good.

I have got the Kewtech KT71 and very happy

I emailed seaward personally asking the same question. to which they replied....

If the IT equipment has a CE mark then it will have undergone testing
according to BS EN 60590.

This means that it has been flash tested at 1500V at the end of production.

The code of practice states that 500V is fine to test as long as it adhres
to the above standard.

It is worth noting that the 500V is not being put across live and neutral
but strapped together to make a short circuit. Therefore the unit is not in
danger of being 'powered up'.
