Hi

I don't know if I am posting in the right area.

I applied for an adult apprenticeship and got asked by the company I applied to do the sectt test at Cardonald College at the end of May.

Is this test a necessity for all trainees and is this a good sign I am doing the test. Also has anyone sat the test and if so how difficult is it?

Cheers

Eerrmm, I dont know about the SECTT test (not something I've heard before) but most colleges have to administrate a Maths and English test before the course starts. This is to pin point any help you may need whilst on the course/s with them so they can give help whilst learning.

Dont worry about it, I thought I was rubbish at English. Passed with a grade of A Level!!! Only got GCSE grade C at school lol.

Go through the process and be truthful to yourself. The results are there to judge and then help is there if need be. Good luck and keep us informed.

From the Sectt website:

If you are interested in becoming an Apprentice Electrician you will be following a Modern Apprenticeship and will achieve an SVQ Level 3. The first step is to register with SECTT for the Pre-Employment Assessment.

From their practice test it does not seem too demanding, though the practice version and real thing can be fairly different.

I would say you are on your way to starting as an apprentice, good luck, and go for it.:smile5:

Well if thats the level of questioning, I'm not surprised we have a trade filling with idiots... did it in 2mins no Calculator...

Going to try see if I have my old aptitude test for college - it comprised of advanced physics and maths questions but been back in the 80's I'm not sure if I kept it after 30yrs.

Thanks guys

I have spoke to a few people who have done the test and it is the way to start as an apprentice, happy days :). and the test does not seem too hard, well judging by the questions I doesn't seem too hard. I will let you know how it goes.

Hi

I sat the sectt test, wasn't too difficult but you had to be fast at answering the questions or you would be out of time. I think the sectt test example questions are way off the mark. Anyways I passed. Happy Days!!!!

The SECTT test is basically a pre apprentice test in Scotland, some basic questions and colour blindness check, it's a starting point for anyone trying to get into the trade and an apprenticeship cannot be gained without it. It is a way of removing anyone that would either fail or drop out of the course, there are loopholes like the pre apprenticeship course which is a short taster course, if you prove to be more than capable at the practical side and eager to learn the lecturers let a training officer know and more emphasis is put on the theory side during the apprenticeship.
