Hi all,
Right can anyone make any suggestions for this one.
I have to connect up a security light from a single switched fused spur. The op currently has an outside light connected to the spur. They want to keep this and it needs to stay on the switch. The security light also ideally needs to run on the same spur because they don't want any sockets adding and it's an ideal place to run power from. However the security light can't be switched off cos then it won't see the burglars!!
Any suggestions of how I can get around this? Is there any way that I can run through the fuse to the security light then back to the switch before going back to the outside light?!
Any help would be much appreciated. Sorry for the essay! Thanks

you will have to add a spur fuse!

I had to read this twice, bit confusing.

the switched fuse spur is there to protect the cable to the light, but you want to bypass the switch for the new light?

the fuse is needed to drop the cable rating for the lights, but then a switch will need to be added to operate the original light

Swap the light fitting for a dual output lantern, gives a lower light for general outdoor use and a brighter light when PIR activates

Yeah sorry it isn't my most eloquent post!! Maybe I shouldn't have written so late on a Friday night! I obviously can't bypass the fuse for either light but wondered whether there is anyway I can bypass the switch for the security light and keep the other light connected to the switch.
There probably isn't and therefore I'll just run a separate supply to the new security light.
Cheers

If I've deciphered that correct you're looking for a security light but needs to be able to be switched permanently on or pir mode

That can be done either by running 3 core to the fitting and a 2 gang switch 2way (L1 Permanently on, L2 PIR, common from the other switch which is a master on/off)

Or get one of the new LED security lights with an electronic override (quickly switch on/off on/off and the light stays on, switch it off for 10 seconds and when it goes back on it will be in normal pir mode), e.g. nighthawk
