Can somebody clarify for me Is it a mandatory requirement to upgrade a lighting circuit from a 6A type B MCB to a 6A RCBO when the circuit has been extended to incorporate a security light and PIR with a indoor isolator ( all wiring is in the loft going from PVC to heat resistant flex before it goes through the cavity outdoors )

Thanks Andy

If changing any circuit you will have to upgrade to current regs but for this security light just put a fcu/rcd switch on that leg and you are abiding with the regs and you know that your work is safe... (please correct me if I'm wrong lads).

Pretty well the way I understood it.

It's good practice always to use an FCU when connecting outside security lighting - half the cheaper units operate an override via a "switch off, switch on" kind of effect - so each one to a Switched FCU with a 3A fuse in it and you'll be ok.

The only grounds under which an extension to the existing lighting circuit would require RCD protection, is if you`re burying cables in walls at <50mm - from your wording it sounds as if all the cabling is within the loftspace, so this wouldn`t be required.
Why are you electing to use heat resistant flex, may i ask?

for the sake of a outdoor PIR and bit of cable i would scoot around the RCBO method and just leave it on the MCB with a FCU fused to 3a...!

rcd protection is also required outside so yes an rcbo would be required if not an rcd on the front end
Really!
A challenge for you...find a regulation anywhere that states that to be the case.
It may be preferable, but for lighting atleast, its not required in the majority of instances.
If we`re to make statements as fact, they must be accurate, & not sweeping ones.
