Seen a TIS 1850 on Ebay | on ElectriciansForums

Discuss Seen a TIS 1850 on Ebay in the Electrical Course Trainees Only area at ElectriciansForums.net

I had a leakage clamp meter and a voltage pen from TIS.
The clamp meter seems OK just a basic standard tester, appears to work all right.
The volt pen was a bit intermittent and with the abuse suffered by being in my kit fell apart quite easily.
Overall I would say that TIS have been pushing their kit quite hard in the last year as it has appeared in various wholesalers.
My impression of them is that they provide a basic level of quality and functional kit.
I would not say it is top of the range but I would not discount them out of hand, if you want something cheap that works they are OK.

Hi,

Thanks for the reply.
Ive looked on the internet & cant seem to find any customer reviews or video demos.?
The retail price on these seems pretty steep as they cost about the same as a megger 1730 with onsite software.
The one on ebay might be worth a punt due to its price but im concerned about getting ownership transferred so i can update the software as & when needed.

I am surprised about the prices as TIS seemed to be just below the regular pricing for similar items, see if you can get a discount.
If they are the same price as a megger then get a megger!

They do seem to do all the tests required but I have just looked at the prices and they are a bit steep, but the singel review on the TIS site sasys they are very good. But who to believe?

Just give TIS a ring and check the availability of the update software.

The ebay listing is only showing the standard TIS information, there is no true picture or details about calibration, so worth checking this before purchase.

personally.i'd stick to megger. a 2nd hand 1553 with calibration can be bought for around £300-£400

Yep, what Tel said, i payed £250 for my 1552 in near mint condition. No calibration in date but my old boss payed to calibrate it so wasn't an issue.

They are great testers, although it would be nice to be able to carry out 2 lead no trip loop tests. Saying that though the no trip test isn't exactly ideal for accuracy.

:)
