Hi,

I have been asked to advice on supply and wiring arrangements for creating a self-contained flat in a house (using one storey of the house as the self-contained flat). I haven't contacted the Distribution Network Operator yet, just wanted a heads up first.

What is the normal configuration?

Many thanks.

Kev

split the tails into small c/u for flat, metering to be considered also, could fit your own for the flat side, depends on what you wanting ie: is it for older parent where meter wont matter or to be rented out etc...

As the chaps have said a lot depends on existing load and supply characteristics.

You could fit your own meter for the flat without bothering the DNO, IF supply is adequate. Otherwise it may be a costly affair knowing DNO's as we do.

A 100A supply for both areas should be ample but you need to have some calculation in place. Will they have gas or all electric? Whay would you need a 3 phase supply i place, why not a 2 phase?

The main concern whether subdividing a property is to ensure that all fittings and holes in dividing walls and ceilings maintain the appropriate fire and acoustic ratings
