Hi all. I'm new to the industry and have just been offered a contract working away for 3-4 months.

The employer has asked whether i want to go S/E or 'cards in' (which i take as being employed?) I will be having to pay for digs etc. so i'm thinking S/E is the best way?

I'm just wondering what's best and what i'd need to take with me if i went S/E?

Any advice or help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance

you'll need you're UTR number for S/E which is the Card number minus the (last 3 digits) on the CIS4 card. See if you can be paid through a limited company like Sterling CIS as they deduct the 20% Tax rate for you and send you an Invoice each week plus you can claim expenses like Accommodation/Travel/Food costs etc.

try n find an "umberella company" like Sterling LIKE due to the variances in their charges Sterling is ÂŁ23 p/w there are others charge less

these umbrella companies are well dogey, when you look at what your actully paying tax on on your payslip, you might be told your gettin 12 quid an hour but thats taking into account your fuel etc so might only be getting 9 quid an hour and thats what your taxed on, then if you book things like college corsues etc to them you get a tax realif on them,
i know a few people who have done it long term and have been investigated by the tax man, also by paying you a less hourly rate they pay less NI for you. my accountant told me to stay well clear of it too

i know its not really that diffrent to normal subbying but i suppose your paying he correct ammount of tax on what you earn then the end of the year the tax man either takes more or pays you some back,

Thanks guys. I've spoken to Sterling who say they can't help me as i'm not going to be working there S/E through an agency?

I've been told if i'm up to scratch that the company might take me on, and start paying towards digs etc., not sure if that means regular subbing or put me on their books but up until then i think going S/E is the only way as my expenses are going to be big?

What are they going to expect from me when i turn up tomorrow if i want to go S/E?
