Bad Wolf

Due to the review yesterday and the date of the 12th of dec sticking is there any companies out there that are thinking of closing the doors and if so would they be intrested in selling there company.

Just a thought might be intrested and might be intrested in a smaller company

I don't know much about the UK solar industry but from what I've read on here don't the PV companies give some ridiculous 25 year warranty on the panels. If you bought a PV company wouldn't you be taking on any warranties that are standing on the jobs previously completed?

Doesn't sound like a viable business proposition to me if that's the case.

All businesses are worth something if they have a data base and customers marvo and the warranties are not quite as you think in the uk so any company looking at this would have to see what has been offered in there t&c's

without an order book or recurring revenue from say a maintenance contract its not worth alot all you will be buying is the name and the stock/plant etc,if your looking to buy one id imagine you will get it quite cheap tho id think the new owners would be liable for any work already carried out in that company name which is under warranty

Yes, all businesses have a value but how would you put a value on the assets such as past trading figures when the environment the industry operates in has changed so radically and in such a short time frame.

If you buy the business trading entity you take on all the liabilities such as staff, debts, warranties etc. Add this to the fact the trading history does not give any indication of future trading and the net value would probably be a negative figure.

I'll be the first to say I don't know how the warranty structures work, in fact I'm clueless about the entire industry but that said, as of next month I suspect most people are clueless about the industry in many ways.
I would agree with those above who suggested opening your own trading entity.

Clueless sums it up i rec!! Gold rush tends to cause these problems!! this change (if u can survive or can be botherd) to keep going will prob sort the industry out!im staying till my nic renewal rolls in then GETTING OUT!!!!!

I'm guessing the smarter business models would be getting annuity income from the installs they completed by either tying the customers into a maintenance contract or a monthly amount according to their energy bill savings. The installation only type companies will be the worse off.

Is it really ethical though selling maintainance contracts on a product which requires no more maintainance than the occasional hose down?
Not that ethics bothers some of the companies out there!!

I see the sharks are circling ...... we're not for sale! not after the blood sweat and tears of the last 18 months, why would I want to have gone through that to sell out to someone?

Powervan - have you got your rose coloured specs on tonight? Did you really say start your own it's not difficult???? Have I been reading the wrong posts for the last 3 and a half weeks

hi guys thanks for the comments

SRE im sorry you think im a shark thats not the case

Powervan i agree could set up from scratch is an option but a formed company with trading history, fitters and MCS is also worth looking at.

Some of the installers have had enough and it may be an idea with the right direction i feel there is still some business to be gained from this industry and future options

well there is a company for sale on here!! we may mess about on here but IF u can make a company work (fairplay to U) so good luck!

My company is currently up for sale. We are predominantly an Electrical Engineering company with an average turnover of £2m. We set up a Solar PV division in August and our turnover by 12th Dec will be around £700k on Solar PV alone.

The whole company is for sale. It is self sufficient and profit making. We intend to become a Green Deal Advisor and Provider. The company is for sale due to MD emigrating.

Thanks

johnpaul
