I have to seperate the wiring of a flat from the main house it was once part of.It will have its own cu and landlord meter fed from a sub main.Any words of advice appreciated.Thanks.

Rewire ..........................

There is not a lot of information on your post, is it a basement, top floor, a side of an house or whatever.

If the house is just a single whole installation then it would be virtually impossible to split it up safely. By the sounds of things it will be a self contained area and therefore should be treated as such with it's owned designed installation.

I'm not sure what the intended project is, but the building and fire regs alone will be a nightmare to convert a single dwelling into a multiple dwelling, unless your converting the whole property into flats.

I agree with Malcolm. Rewire.

This type of job can be a right pain in the butt.

The way I would go about it is to disconnect all the electrical supplies to the 'new flat' and start again.

Spose thats obvious really.

It will probably take you longer to disconnect the existing electrics than to install the new installation to the flat.

The last thing you want is to have a socket outlet in the new flat which is supplied from the main house. Not only is this very dangerous (for future people working on the installation and not testing each outlet for voltage, ie assuming the whole ring is dead), it also give the opportunity for the tenant access to free electric.

The flat already exists,it is ground floor with two rooms and just one ring, cooker and lights. The cooker comes from a cu from a flat on the left and the ring and lights from a flat on the right.I think I will have to do a careful survey first. My original plan was to fit mini meters in each of the feeds and I think that might be the best option.
