Hey everyone,

I've fit a nurse call panel in a new build hospital, for the call and reset buttons in the bedrooms, toilets etc. There are 5 different main cables going from the panel to different areas of the hospital, where a splitter goes on the end and cables go into every room.

Now my problem....

The panel has been buzzing on and off for a while now, saying random rooms buttons have been pressed. I disconnected all the cables from the panel and replaced them one by one to find the source. Here's where it gets odd...

I replace 1-4, all fine, no faults, no buzzing, nothing. all areas clear. When I add 5 however, buzzing, faults, then 1-4 start getting faults as well. If i remove 5 again, the faults on 1-4 stay until the cables are removed.

Any ideas anyone, im really stressing out here!!!

Tony

I would be looking at cable 5, continuity test and IR between cores. Maybe the fault is on that cable and when connected is screwing the electronics up to the point it locks up showing faults across the lot..

Ok you have Quantec or Intercall, it is an addressable 2 wire system, main lines go into 4 way fused splitters and then off to call points. At each call unit disconnect the wires connected to the toilet pull cords and just leave + and - connected. hopefully this will get rid of fault.....once ok test each call unit is working ok.......then connect toilet pull cords checking correct connections. You have a incorrectly wired pull cord, or a damp pull cord or call unit.

Well we have not had a reply from the op, so hopefully all ok...would like to mention here why are we are all talking cat5.???....these systems should be wired in standard 0.75 - 1.5 T&E or flex as the main network spline to all fused splitters, and standard 4/6 core stranded security cable to call and display units. The idea here is to keep a constant 12v network with little volt drop, and not to use brital cat5 single strands...this is not a data or telephone system,
