Too many if and buts with this one, what field you in, do you need premises have you got tools, are you doing own accounts, do you need transport ive pretty much built everything up myself over years and setting up with the extras i needed to go alone was about 5k with change but i work from home and do machine breakdowns so stock isnt really an issue as i pick up as i need.

Hi
It all depends but if work is steady then try to save 10000 to 20000 in your business account so you can take on a little more work as some companies state 90 days payment, website ÂŁ10.00 for one year One.com Web hosting**-**Domain • Hosting • E-mail** but contacts is the big secret to success.

Also do your research on the company you are going to do work for check with companies house to make sure they don't have any DORMANT COMPANIES set up and check to see if they have any outstanding ccj, research is very important over the next 2-3 years as some companies will refuse to pay you for the work you do, Contract and always take photos of your work

Thanks

Mark

Cheers guys for the replys, I'm just about set up on myown now so thank's for the advice but just a bit to late :p. The reason for this tread was just out of curiousity, I managed to set up for about 4.5k all in all. Starting small and who knows where i'll end up:rolleyes: just enjoying the ride at the min:D.

Im doing Domestic Only and already had a lot of tools... so far the costs are nearly ÂŁ2k but am yet to pay for my NIC membership and stuff.

thats not including my training course though...

Hi festerfly are you just going through labc at the min then, I used them for one of my 2 jobs for the nic and put this way, I won't be doing it again. there cost a fortune and don't do a thing:eek:. How long have you been working for yourself?

Hi guys

Just out of interest how much did you set your business up for?

I have just been going through some rough calcs on this as I hope to get up and running in a few months; I reckoned about 8k.

2.4k small van (brother has own van, car, bike business)
0.5k Part P assessment
1.3k tools (enough to get started + a bit more)
1k on basic stock
0.5k on other bits and pieces (insurance etc)
+ a bit left over to get me through 2 months of initial slow business

More or less anyway..!

regarding stock i have just been accumulating as i go but i wouldent imagine that much for a domestic setup?

Just got my Meter so thats another lump sum to add to my running total!
