Hi i have recently started dabbling in the stock market not with large amounts of money but just to try and make a little bit of extra cash on the side . I was just wondering if any one else did a bit of share dealing and might have some tips or info to help a novice out ?

Yes. I use lloydstsbsharedealing.com to buy and sell shares. There are cheaper options, but it works for me.

Use sites like iii.co.uk or lse.co.uk for tips and forum talk on individual shares... Tip is not to buy and sell too much. Buy, and sit back, for 6 months, or until you hit your target profit, ie 20% or whatever you set yourself.

I managed to turn £4000 into £2600 very quickly, by getting carried away, and selling as soon as the price dropped. Now my £4000 has gone up to £7200 in 12 months.

Bought into BP at £3.06, just at it hit bottom, and they are over £4.50 now.... nice 50% return...

There is a good book, called The Naked Trader, that has loads of info, and tips.

Agree with tilly. Robbies web site is good also - search naked trader (carefully!) in google.

I use advfn for info but there is hundreds of sites out there for info. Best advice I could give is open a couple of "play" accounts and practice dealing. Stay away from day trading, spread betting, CFD etc until you've got the basics down.

And most importantly only use money you can afford to lose. Do not use next months mortgage/rent payment it will end in tears!!!

I also have L2, from iii.co.uk Its £20 a month, but it gives you live prices and volumes.. Not worth it if you are new, but pretty useful as you get more experienced.

My dad did a bit a few years ago. He got a redundancy cheque for £100 about 20 years ago, he took up shares, and bought his house in Spain 12 years ago for a few thousand pounds, he still say his house cost him £100. The only tips he ever gave me was to only gamble what you can afford to lose. He also told me to buy lots of shares at around the 10p mark, and sell them at 11p. I never bothered, could never afford it, but that is how he made some decent money, but you need to be on top of it all the time.

Just getting into this my self, not spending big money yet but just getting used to how it works

I've brought some in oil company's and a builder and just goin to sit and see what happens.

Tonight I was £101 up on one then when I refreshed the page I was £35 down in seconds, This just shows how quickly I can loose money.

Hi

Just starting out in the Trade and not posted anything on the forum yet. Wouldn't have thought my first post would be about share dealing though.

There is an online site called The Share Centre, just put it in google, you can set up a practice account and you've got £15000? to play around with. You need to register with them and set the account up then you are off. I'm still mucking about with the practice one, not been on it for ages though, I'm sure you can still practice on it before doing it for real. Worth a try to find your feet with no risk to your hard earned money.
