Is it ok to run the supply to a shed from the back of a socket in the house? It comes through the wall then runs to the shed in armoured cable and runs a light and a socket.

Also would it be acceptable to have an outside socket spurred from a socket in the house?

Do outside sockets/supplies need to be on separate circuits?

Cheers

From a practical point of view you'd want to be able to isolate any possible problems in the shed and the SWA supplying it from the house circuit - so on that basis alone a dedicated circuit would make sense.

From a design perspective the SWA has different characteristics to the 2.5 that may be used on the house ring - you'd want to consider load requirements, length of run, voltage drop, etc, so you can specify the protective device correctly.

As far as I know, you can spur an external socket off the ring in the same way you can an internal socket, providing there is RCD protection - either at the CU, or integral to the added socket, so anyone using the external socket for garden machinery, etc has extra protection that RCD provides ... and it meets requirements for spurred sockets - see appendix 15 of regs.

Cheers, think the shed will get disconnected and replaced with an outside socket then. Sockets are all on RCD anyway so that will be the best option.
