shed

T

Trip

Example one
Picture a man with an electric lawn mower 20 ft from edge of house in garden with a plug in rcd on a pme installation.(20 ft extension lead)

Example two
Now picture the man in the shed with electric drill(again pme,20ft from house)
The sub main to the shed is protected by an RCD.

Does the shed's consumer unit require an earth stake???

If it does, please explain why the end of the 20ft extension lead requires no earth stake but the shed does?

The second part of the shed question.
If the shed has no extrouneous metal work inside, Does the shed require an earth stake?

When is the need to stake an outbuilding(shed), in direct relation pme? never?

I once heard from an electrical supply company that alternative to staking the outbuilding(shed) the main earthing conductor could be extended to the outbuilding ie 16mm green/yellow

To save going through all the same old stuff, yet again, read the ''sticky'' on this subject on this forum above, then come back and ask any questions you may still have...

be next week time he's read all that. LOL.

engineer, what are your thoughts on yeterdays thread about cross bonding boilers. have you read that one?

I am just waiting on someone to say that they can quote a reg to say it is not allowed to export a PME earth. Then when they see they are wrong just keep saying that they would spike it just because.

Well I'll say it:

It's illegal to export pme, police officers countrywide have mobilised elite teams of specialist officers to examine sheds and outbuildings for any signs of these lethal earthing arrangements.

Members of the public are being urged to report any suspicious activity involving armoured cables and frequent posts to electrical forums.

What's the date? ;)

Ha ha ha ha. The others must be busy banging spikes and can not reply.

Just read it Tel,

Seeing as if it is a gas boiler, it's being connected to the gas pipe that's been bonded, and also the water bond connection there's little point in cross bonding. Even if it was an oil fired boiler, fed from a tank via buried metallic piping, only that pipe would need bonding as it entered the premises back to the MET...
Too many what ifs and maybes out there these days, when all that is needed to confirm bonding or indeed cross bonding is a simple resistance test...

Having said all that, i'm still a firm believer in the old bathroom bonding, (or other special wet locations) but that's because i don't have the blind faith of others here in relying totally on a RCD

That old pdf file I read it simply saying as an option, stake if you want to, with seperated earths or extend in 10mm if extraneous present.?
If not no stake or extension needed?

No reason not to run the main equalpotential bonding conductor within a 10mm supply sub main as a 4 core cable with cpc (1)and (2)main equalpotential bonding conductor,(3) line and (4)neutral.

Assuming no earth seperation needed for extension.

But the local JP won't issue a warrant if its an all metal shed sitting on 4" rubber mats:):)
