Hello i have a couple of questions i would like to ask please.

Ive been asked to install some new lights in a small shop in London i plan to disconnect the old lights and use the switched feed thats already in and connect the new lights to that. There is no permenant feed in the ceiling.

Do i legally have to put emergency lights in? There in one customer entrance into the shop and there is currently no emergency lights in there.

With it being a commerical property and im only adding to an existing circuit, will i need to test it?

Also the ceiling is being dropped and a smoke head needs to be dropped aswell, the smoke detector links into the hotels alarm above. Am i legally allowed to work on their fire alarm system or will i need to get a specialist fire alarm contractor in to move this head?

Many thanks for any help.

IMO Id wait a couple of weeks till the riots stop not much point in refurbing just to have it burnt down

seriously tho if its a suspended celing your installing id personaly fit emergency lighting as per the recomendations ( theres a link in another thread )

If your asking about the firealarm that suggests to me your not confident working on it so you should realy get someone in that is they will also beable to advise re number of detectors ect

God help you if you set that alarm off! Hotel patrons lined up in the street, fire engines galore and you hung from the nearest lamppost. Probably by the fire brigade!

i would not touch the fire alarm. Speak to the hotel and hopefully they will have maintenance staff who may be able to help you. It might be wise to get the hotels fire alarm company in. Its their system and they will need to isolate it.
The lighting circuit would need to be tested after.
