I’m industrial spark and never worked in a house in my life.. Just bought a 3 bed bungalow and I don’t have access to a tester atm I’m off on holiday for 2 weeks.. I have 4 circuits at the DB, 32 amp cooker, 32 ring, 16amp radial and 6 amp lighting circuit. What are your thoughts on the current set up.

Where do yo think you need a rewire.
Plus why are those extra tail is the rcd isolator?
It feeds the rcd for the garage

Just unsure on the the old colours/age of consumer unit. Only ever worked on new builds

Has for the tails in the garage another rcd board in?

Looks to me 25 plus colours. Plus with out a test gear then you are snookerd.
I know, going to try get a tester from a friend. Might just bite the bullet and rewire it, probably better in the long run

I would suggest you do a full eicr in great detail before anything else.

Then you will know exactly the state of the installation.

For most of this you wouldn't need a mft, as you would gain great understanding from just looking under the covers, this may be enough to decide in any case, then get a tester for the testing aspect - at your own home you can spread the work out and do 100%

Then decide.

Although, I would think about putting a bigger rcbo cu in place and check out the earthing in any case - is it TT?

You would likely need to add/upgrade smoke alarms etc in line with the new law

There should be no reason to automatically need to replace the red/black pvc stuff, but you would probably want to extend or change stuff to match your future needs

as Julie says. first look all round and decide if you need more sockets etc. and if relocating some would be advantageous. then a test of the installation. I'm a firm believer in the adage " if it ain't broke, don't fix it".

As above, do a proper inspection & test before you decide what to do. At the very least you will need IR and low-ohms measurement like the old Megger, but it makes sense to borrow (or rent) a MFT for the job as that will also do Zs and RCD trip characteristics.

The 100mA incomer suggests it is a TT set up, or was when originally installed. Cables are going to be older than 2003 or so, but unless damaged PVC stuff will last many decades. So it might be you just go for a new CU with SPD and all-RCBO for the existing circuits.

However, wired smoke alarms and probably required, they can go off the lights so no new circuit necessary.

You probably will want more 13A sockets, but that might just be a bit of ring rejig to add more points.

In Scotland you don't have the Part P regulations (at least, not yet) but you absolutely must be able to properly test it. So that means getting access to test gear. I am sure you are quite aware of that, but I am commenting for anyone else reading this thread in a similar position! I have seen MFT for hire for under £100/week.

On the smoke/heat alarm side, in Scotland you will need to have these in place by February 2021. They do not need to be hard wired, can be 10 year sealed battery type, but must be interlinked, either wired or with wireless modules.
