Hi, just looking for some advice and thoughts on the following.

I have been interested in the design side of our trade (commercial&industrial). I have my NVQ level 3 diploma installing electrotechnical systems and equipment and my testing and inspecting.
Having spoke to the company I work for they sound interested in letting me work with our designer and willing to put me through the required courses to get the qualifications needed.

Would moving into design be seen as progression (as I would like to progress but not really interested in working towards being a supervisor)?

Just wondering if anyone has done this and could let me know their thoughts?

What qualifications there are to be an electrical designer?

Would moving into design be better money in the long run after training?

Cheers

Welcome to the forum mate.
I'd say go for it. You will learn lots of stuff.
At the end of the day it all depends on what your company designers do.
If they are office based then this will not suit everyone.
People look at it as progression. Some people might let it get to them and think they are better than the guys doing the manual work... Ive seen it... To me, everyone is equal. At the end of the day we should help each other... Anyhow, I'm going off topic....
I do miss wiring up panels, now I rarely get to do assembly work.
For qualifications, again, its down to the company. It is just a job title... According to some people on here I'm not an engineer, as I don't have a degree... People will think what they want.
Money?? It usually does pay more.
Does your company have different sections for design... eg Hardware & Software, or are they combined into one?
I our office there are the Metal Bolters (Mechanical), 1's & 0's (Software) and then the great hardware guys.... You will never guess which I'm in........
