Hi all,

Just a quickie. I'd appreciate verification regarding a like for like shower circuit replacement. Started job today going back on Monday to finish off and test. I started filling in a Minor Works (address, job details etc) but have since had second thoughts. As it's a special location regardless of whether it's a replacement I'm thinking it should actually be full domestic cert. That's right innit?

An EIC is only for new circuits, as you are replacing the shower like for like and not actually touching the wiring it is a Minor Works, however because it is in a special location it is notifyable.:D

I agree it is an EIC, only because of the location. the circuit is however not a new one it is only a replaced like for like. Some would argue that you done need an EIC as it is like for like.

Exactly my reason for posting in the first place, it's good to get other peoples opinions/interpretations but at the end of the day you want to be sure you're doing the job right with the relevant paper work etc, it can be a bit of a minefield out there.:)

Hate to throw a spanner in the ring & all that, but for the sake of accuracy here, that its a Special Location has no bearing on whether an EIC or Minor Works Cert is appropriate. That the work is in a Special Location would impact on whether it requires notification or not, but not on the type of Installation Cert

Yes, some would argue that as you`ve not provided a new circuit as such, it only warrants a MEIWC & no notification, but only if you`d replaced the cable due to damage etc & it not altered it`s route or ccc. Fair play to the OP for not argueing & doing the job properly with an EIC. :)
