Hi all

I am new to this so please be patient with me..

I have a 10.5 kw Shower with a supply of 230 v The power triangle equates that a 45.65 A protection is required.
The shower is wired in 10mm t&e approx 10 meters from the cu.

The problem i have is that the volex board i have only has 50A mcb's available for it.

The question is would that be ok or would i need to be nearer the 45A That is required.

Thanks

Deano

Hi mate, yeah 50 amp would be fine its the closest to your 45 available;)

dont forget the overcurrent device is there to protect the cable (amongst other things)
50amp isnt a million miles away from the max for the cable...
personaly i'd go for a 32amp overcurrent device.

There's no diversity allowable on showers though, every shower i've done of that size has been put on 50 amp breaker and either 10 or 16 mm cable, i see what your saying though a 32 amp breaker does'nt reach that current for a while so unless you spends hours in the shower i doubt it would ever trip, just me i like everything to be right on paper;)

The calcs may show a load current of around 45 amps, but if you clamp an ammeter around the cable it's surprising how much less it often is. More like 38 to 40 amps so yes a 32 amp mcb will hold out until your bits have wrinkled up in the shower before tripping :D
