hi

called out to look at a shower pump that is only working when it feels like it. Is this possibly a thermal cutout issue as I cant really think of any other reason why this would be so :dunce2:

thanks in advance

btw

i've probably posted in wrong sub as its a stand alone pump which is operated by switching on a spur and consequently switching off when shower is finished with

Is the pump turning at all (not necessarily providing flow but still running?
If so then possibly a blocked filter in the pump inlet or a failure of the magnetic coupling (if magnetically coupled impeller) or air locks in the water supply.

If the pump does not even turn then could be an overheat problem, check once it has been off for some time does it always start then, but has problems when restarting after recent use.
Does it ever stop whilst in use, then much more likely to be overheat.

These pumps normally if used for a shower tend to have a flow switch installed either in the shower or more commonly in the pipe to the shower which stops any undue wear on the pump, it would seem yours does not have either so agree with richard above.
If the pump does need replacing i would recommend to the client it would benifit to have one installed, would stop all the messing around with swich and prolong the life of the new pump.
