S

sparked out

A friends shower switch burnt out due to loose connection the problem is its a 10.5KW shower 40A wylex fuse and 6mmTE. Would the 6mm be ok with a 32A fuse and RCD, he does not want carpets lifting to run in a new 10mmTE

Well you could try that, but unfortunately the demand of the shower is 45.7 Amps so a 10mm cable (& RCD etc) is your (& his) only option.

P.s. That is probably why the cable is burning out ~ another reason not to have fuses within a domestic situation.

Replace the switch and then replace the shower with a 8.5kw shower! Cheapest option.

Replace the switch and run in 10mm supply cable! Dearest option.

You would need to inform the customer that he would really need to supply the shower through an RCD.

Cheers

I think it safe to say it would be good practice to advise a 10 mm cable for a new shower circuit as standard because it is likely at some point the customer will call a plumber or someone else to upgrade the shower.

Thus it could be acceptable that it is likely that the load could be increased in the lifetime of that cable. i.e. reg:132.3 NATURE OF DEMAND: Loads to be expected on the various circuits. also reg: 132.7 nature of location.

just my thoughts but please correct me if I'm wrong.
